This year, we have teamed up with Dramatenbaren to bring Piano Day to Stockholm in a one-day festival. The line-up features Swedish musicians Jakob Lindhagen, Vargkvint, Klangriket, and Joakim Alfvén, and a very special guest from Canada: Nathan Shubert.
Piano Day, an annual worldwide event founded by Nils Frahm, takes place on the 88th day of the year because of the number of keys on the instrument being celebrated. The aim of the day is to create a platform for piano related projects in order to promote the development of musical dimensions and to continue sharing the centuries-old joy of playing piano. Piano Day welcomes all kinds of piano lovers —young and old, amateur and professional, of any musical direction— to join in this year's festivities. It is intended to be the most joyful of all holidays!
Having played instruments since the age of five, Jakob Lindhagen is a composer, music producer, and multi-instrumentalist based in Stockholm, Sweden. Regularly composing for films as Cannes-competing Push It, Swedish Academy-awarded Skörheten, and Berlinale-nominee Tweener, he has also released his solo album Paces through contemporary classical label 1631 Recordings, as well as contributing to the label’s popular Piano Cloud Series.
Drawing inspiration from forests, oceans, and folklore, Vargkvint is a low-key, largely instrumental musical act from multi-artist Sofia Nystrand, based in Stockholm, Sweden. Combining evocative melodies with playful arrangements and unexpected instrumentation, her debut-EP Brus was, after its initial self-release in 2016, reissued by French label Soft Recordings the year after. Her follow-up, Hav, will be released in April through piano and coffee records.
Drawing on influences from Nils Frahm, Erik Satie, and Steve Reich, Vancouver-based pianist/composer Nathan Shubert’s engaged and empathic take on contemporary classical blends a muted physicality with an exceptional ear for beauty. His second album When You Take Off Your Shoes releases February 19 followed by a tour across Europe.
Klangriket is the project of Swedish producer and composer Fabian Rosenberg, who debuted last year on piano and coffee records with two highly acclaimed EPs: his collaboration with Sjors Mans, The Amsterdam Sessions, and his solo EP Tjärn. Featured in various music platforms as Headphone Commute, A Closer Listen, Pretty in Noise, and Stationary Travels, Fabian's works have been marked as some of the best and most innovative releases of 2018.
Stockholm-based electronic musician Joakim Alfvén blends large soundscapes with minimalism and rhythmic patterns , surrounded by wonderous and mystical harmonics. He has been part of various diverse projects and releases of which Klangriket’s EP Tjärn (Reworked) and the collaborative album Sketches stand out.
