Hunger Pains by Bibi Agu, a second year Fine Art Student at Liverpool John Moores University in the U.K.

"My work often has a childish nature to it, which was initially accidental. I think it’s because I like the innocent, playful quality it presents and I don’t want the work to be too heavy and intense, although I have found it can sometimes have the opposite effect. My mini photo series “Hunger Pains” involves baking biscuits which spells out ignorant quotes regarding eating disorders. These phrases I accumulated from Tumblr after publishing a post which requested for people to send me quotes of their personal experiences with people misunderstanding their eating disorders. As a recovered anorexic (anorexia – bulimia subtype) myself, I could relate to a lot of these and I think it’s mandatory for me to have a connection with my work like this. Because of the childish nature in my work it has allowed me to have fun whilst dealing with personal issues and allows me to create work freely without the worry of spreading negativity.”
